Title:[3075] Two overlapping star clusters in the Large Magellanic Cloud (HST)
Caption:A pair of star clusters in the Large Magellanic Cloud in an image taken by the Hubble Space Telescope in 1994. The field of view is 130 light years across and the stars are 166,000 light years away. The two clusters lie along the same line of sight. About 60 per cent of the stars belong to a yellowish cluster, NGC 1850, estimated to be 50 million years old. A scattering of white stars, representing about 20 per cent of the stars visible, belong to a loose cluster only 4 million years old. The remaining stars in the field of view are field stars in the LMC.
